Can Qigong Prevent Alzheimer's ?

Every Seven Seconds, One New Case Of Dementia Reported

PETALING JAYA, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- More than 50,000 people in Malaysia are suffering from Alzheimer's, a disease that alters the brain, causing impaired memory, thinking, behaviour and functional activity, an expert said Sunday.

Every seven seconds, one new case of dementia, one of the causes of Alzheimer's, was reported, meaning that 4.6 million of the world's population were suffering from the disease each year. Out of 10 patients, nine were below 65 years old.

"The most common early sign and symptom of Alzheimer's is the loss of short-term memory, such as forgetting what they ate for breakfast on that day,"

Alzheimer's could not be cured, but the earlier it was diagnosed and treated, the better for the patient and his/her family.

Dr Yau Weng Keong who delivered a talk titled "Current AD Treatment and Can We Prevent AD" said there were many ways to prevent the disease:

Eat more vegetables and fish,
exercise regularly,
reduce anger,
have fun, relax, laugh,
have a good attitude,
keep studying to train the mind, and
keep involving in social activities
(All but one of these ways are found in Hexiang Zhuang Qigong)

Traditional or Virtual Colonoscopy?

Traditional or Virtual Colonoscopy?

By: Allie Montgomery
Published: Friday, 19 September 2008

The new virtual colonoscopy—a colon cancer screening technique that uses CT scans—is increasing in popularity and seems to be doing an admirable job of identifying polyps.

In fact, in a recent study this procedure was found to detect 90 percent of large polyps that were 10 millimeters or more in diameter.

That is the same accuracy that has been reported for colonoscopy itself in other studies conducted. The regular colonoscopy, however, is still able to detect polyps that are much smaller.

Our Nose Can Detect Cancer?

The Scent of Cancer Could Lead to Early Detection
By: Madeline Ellis

Imagine being able to detect cancer through smell. It is certainly within the realm of possibility. The human skin releases chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in differing amounts, which in turn generates unique scents. And while our noses are unable to detect them, a canine's sensitive nose can. Dogs have been trained to "sniff out" tumors and to detect changes in the odor of urine, which could indicate bladder cancer. Researchers now hope to use this premise to develop a noninvasive test to diagnose skin cancer.

Chest Pain and Qi
